Is there any way to modify the backups iTunes makes of your iPod? The reason I ask is because I recently got the 2nd Gen iPod and I restored it from the backup of my first gen, and my custom carrier name , and the emoji keyboard I enabled are both still there. So if there is a way to modify the backups it would allow you to make at least some limited customizations/hacks to the 2nd Gen iPod touch. Any ideas?

Unfortunately this wouldn't work. It would be unsigned code which the 2nd-gen iPod touch would deny.

Even if it's just a modified plist, or a png switched out?

I'm not sure on the specifics, but I know that it would be unsigned code that would be denied by the signature check. That's basically what jailbreaking over rides. Finding an exploit that allows unsigned code to be parsed.

Use your first gen for minor 2g modification I guess.

Well the first gen broke, that's how I got the 2nd gen. You've gotta love warranties. Anywho is it possible that iTunes signs the backups when it uploads them to the iPod? Just throwing ideas out.

Probably. The only way to modify it would be from the 1st gen before iTunes signs in. Apple knows what they're doing.
