So when you download a game or application there is an IPA file placed in the ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications. Would it be possible, for proof of concept only, to modify the contents of that IPA file and then install the modified application on a non-jailbroken iPod Touch or iPhone. Inside the IPA file is the applications metadata in .plist form, and the actual executable inside a folder called Payload. Would it be possible to replace the executable and modify the metadata accordingly to effectively make one app into a completely different one? Has anyone tried this?

I am not telling to install an illegal application.

But to install Modified IPA files, you need to patch:

    Code:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework/MobileInstallation
So yes, you must be jailbroken.

SSH, make the old file a backup, and copy the new one in.

I can see this post getting closed soon...

He obviously googled "what not to do with your ipod because that would be illegal" and that came up as one of the results.
    ------------------double post merged------------------
Well I wouldn't google patched version of what ever that file is 'cause that would be illegal.
