    From reading threads on this forum and the tubes I got the impression that mobile terminal is supposed to have nano built in. This is reinforced by the fact that it has a separate button for it. I don't appear to have it however. When I type nano it says:

    Code:
    -sh: nano: command not found
    The same happens for sudo. Am I missing something? (look at that, a pun)

    I've got iPod Touch 3G 3.1.3

    You have to download nano from Cydia (if nano exists on iOS), I know there is a terminal text editor.. and you should use

    su to become root (password is alpine) then do your commands.

    My terminal is missing like everything on 4.0. It doesn't even have the basics that come with berkelydb.

    you download the extra terminal command line functionality from Saurik's servers. View cydia as developer/hacker and search for the Unix command plugins.

    Which source did you have to add? It's not in there for me (I'm running Cydia as Developer).

    If you are comfortable on the command line, you might as well install the apt command line interface.

    (as root)
    apt-get install nano

    I don't know how you would use nano in MobileTerminal, but in an ssh session it would certainly be handy.

    the source is Telesphoreo Tangelo, install by default.

    Cannot Find Nano Terminal Editor Anywhere

    In the tutorial it says to get Nano Terminal Editor thru Cydia. I even added apt.saurik.com.

    Someone please help.

    Thank you so much.

    Finally Figured it out. Using Disk Aid I went in and edited the host file to this:

    ##
    # Host Database
    #
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
    ##
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
    ::1 localhost
    fe80::1%lo0 localhost

    93.184.221.133 cache.saurik.com
    74.208.10.24 apt.saurik.com

    Thanks everyone for the help.

    New problem: terminal is not working at all after upgrading to iOS 4. It opens for a second and then crashes. I just thought it wasn't yet ported for iOS 4 but apparently it works for others.

    Yeah I know about that. I just thought that sudo was also supposed to be there based on the fact that the terminal has a specific button for that. WHy have a button for something that doesn't exist?

    EDIT: got everything to work. Thanks.
