    or maybe even

    nope.

I am here telling you all about an application I am thinking about.

    Yep an MMO,
heres a screenshot of the game so far. Its not super functional. Working mostly on the backend first.

Any PHP or MySQL devs out there. Designers? Codemonkeys?

Don't use virtual controls. That's what I think. Tap to move. Tap to interact. When you tap an NPC or another player, make it bring up a radial menu to show actions. That's how I wanted Final Fantasy for the iPod touch/iPhone to be done. Think of the platform you are working on. Don't try to bring other platform inputs into it.

    GOOD GOOD GOOD IDEA!

Was wondering how I was going to manage all that junk.

Yay! Now I have space for a minimap?

Definitely! You could also make it so that they can change whether they want a minimap in the corner or a transparent map over the middle of the screen, easier to see where you're navigating or going. As for the menu on the right, you could make the menus swipe in or put different swipe in menus on the sides of the screen. To access character info or bag or equipment, tap your own character to bring up a radial menu.

Those are just some ideas I've had in my head for a long long long time, just needed a place to vent them out.

    Good luck to you

Take a look into Egoboo while you're at it. It might help: http://egoboo.sourceforge.net/

I'd love to see that ported to the iPhone OS.

those are some legit ideas that I will implement for sure. Unless someone can top that. Thats great though.

What about having a mini-map that expands to full screen after tapping it? When it's fullscreen it should be transparent so you can still interact while having it on top. To close it just add something in the same place the user clicked to show the big map. This way the user would be able to walk while using the map.
(The map should snap back to the mini-map whenever something like a dialogue etc. pops up, but make sure to bring it back to fullscreen right after the dialogue is away. So the user doesn't have to toggle the fullscreen mode again and again.)

I can't help you with coding or anything sorry, but I like your idea.

Just an FYI.... maybe download GraalOnline Classic off iTunes and take a look at that. It has a free version and may give you some more ideas how to go with this idea.... since it seems to be a similar concept to what you're going with here... (No offense or anything here, just thought it might help you in some way).

    Thank both of you.

I will download it. It can't discourage me. I am doing it for a learning experience also.

Rather than have a mini-map, why not have the user pinch, and the camera zooms out and into a mini-map. Same sort of motion you'd do to zoom out on Google Maps.
