    UPDATE

I spoke to an Apple Representative, and the Microphone is in fact the tiny hole next to the back facing camera just as I suspected.

As opposed to some speculation, this is NOT a light sensor. The illumination sensor Apple was describing is IN the camera. The illumination sensor is also present in the iPhone 4.

There is an Ambient light sensor on the front of the device to control screen brightness, and the port at the bottom of the iPod Touch is an external speaker, changed from the previous internal design. (which sounded rather muffled)

from most of what i've heard, read, and images i've seen that point stuff out, the mic is the spot next the camera. there is no light sensor for the back camera as far as i know.

From the Apple website: "You can record video in low-light settings, thanks to the advanced backside illumination sensor."
So the mic probably isn't next to the camera...

If you read carefully on apple's site, it mention that the dot in the back is the ligth sensor, and there is a picture where you can see the mic just next to the dock conector
