Can an external mic (3.5mm) be used to override the rear mic on the iPod Touch 4G?

I know the External mics (3.5mm) work on the 2G's. Can they work on the 4G? And disable the rear mic?

I would assume so - the Apple Remote + Mic headphones override the built-in microphone on the iPhone.

    I'm sure it does, though.

I just tried it, it thought my mic was a pair of headphones...

You have to have a specific type, you can't use a normal 3.5 mm microphone.

Do you know if it overrides the rear mic, with the correct Microphone?
