Is there a program that will allow me to connect to a local media server from the iPod touch which will transcode videos such as avi to mp4 in realtime so it can be steamed on the touch, without going through the conversion process and syncing the videos in itunes?

You can create a media server from a PC if that is what you're asking. You can have a computer handle the encoding/transcoding and watch from your iPod Touch. TVersity for Windows does pretty well. Try that.

If you choose to go the media-server route, be sure to purchase a new, high-capacity hard disk first and back up often. Then put the server on your home
