Literally as soon as I click on a single song or perform ANY keystroke while attempting to manually manage my music I get the beach ball. I also get the beach ball pretty much whenever I do anything in my itunes, whether or not my 2nd Gen Ipod Touch is connected. I've tried everything, believe me, everything. It will, without exaggeration, take itunes 10 to 15 minutes to do it's beach ball song and dance before I can edit the info for 2 - 3 songs.

Editing or rearranging an entire album.....phew. This process takes me so long I have basically given up on trying to put anything new on my ipod.

Syncing also takes 15 to 20 minutes and itunes feels obligated to "sync" at completely random times.

Anyone struggling this hard? It's been this way for me since itunes 7.

I should also add that I can't even manually delete songs from ipod.

I don't want to sync anything either, all of my syncing is "disabled". Although, it still syncs after every beach ball detour.

All I want to do is manually manage my music and not sync anything with my itunes library. A majority of my music on my ipod is from other people's librarys so if I were to disable manually managing music and take the lazy way out and do the whole sync bullsh*t, I would lose almost all of my music.

o shiet! d00d, the rainbow circle of death sucks ass when you have a mac. and so does the blue bozo screen on windows.
EDIT: also, if you want to sync music from your itunes library to your ipod without deleting what you got, i suggest using SwapTunes. on Cydia.

Normally it does. There appears to be something amiss with his installation. Perhaps try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes?

yes, like any other computer. that isn't the problem however, because the spinning wheel of death is an issue with hardware, and if you get it, the Boot ROM gets corrupted and plays an endless white screen with the gray apple. you can however use a verbose boot to debug it.
