My iPod 3G is currently on 3.1.2 (which i have restored to several times).

I downloaded the 4.0 firmware from:
    http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
and whenever i try to restore to 4.0 after verifying and preparing ipod for restore, itunes says error 13. (windows 7)
When tried on a mac, itunes says the this device is not eligible for the requested build.

i am stuck because i want 4.0, i can wait but i want to know what is going on and if i can go to 4.0.

    Thanks

Can't you just update through iTunes?

iPod Touch 3G has new bootrom so they can't jus restore to any firmware. they can only restore to the latest firmware from Apple. currently it's 4.0.2 till 4.1 releases. unless u have 4.0 SHSH u can't restore to 4.0
only PWNED4Life device -> iPhone 2G, 3G n iPod Touch 1st gen, 2nd gen can restore to any firmware that's available for them!

Apple must have stopped signing it.

If you had previously JB'd and run cydia use the same restore methods as cydia automatically takes SHSH blobs for these devices.

Apple doesn't sign it. If you read back in all that posts you would have known. Just wait till tomorrow, 4.1 will come out. Then just wait until it's jailbroken. Might take some time, though.
