I would like to make a dd image of /dev/disk0s1 which up until the 1.1.3 soft upgrade I thought was impossible since I could not unmount the partition first, but after looking into how the upgrade works I should be able to do it.

I have a couple questions because I don't want to screw anything up since I don't have Windows or Mac to restore my iTouch. I am a Linux only house. First being what is the difference between /dev/disk0s1 and /dev/rdisk0s1? According to ls -l they have the same major and minor nodes but one is a block device and the other is a character. I ask because in the 1.1.3 soft upgrade they write the image to rdisks01 which is the character. Which one should I backup.

Also In the end I would like to test the 1.1.3 upgrade (I already have the 113_upgrade_image.bin so I don't need any platform dependent software to do the upgrade) with the choice of restoring said 1.1.2 backup, should that be a problem?
