    ok.
    iPod touch 2g 3.0 JailBroken.
i turn it on, and i get the apple bootlogo for a while, then it goes to the 'connect to itunes' screen but with my lockcalendar widget overlaid.
i cannot connect to iTunes because i installed USB drive, and my iPod now only comes up in windows explorer as a removable disk and not in iTunes at all.
    will a DFU-restore fix this?
i'd try it but i don't want to make things worse.

DFU restoring should help. Hopefully it'll delete the partition.
If it doesn't you might be able to do it manually with iRecovery.

only problem is, the USB drive mod modified a plist that tells iTunes it's an iPod. Will it detect it in DFU mode?

It should detect it. DFU mode should be independent on any files on the iPod.

No need to shift restore, it should download a stock 3.0 3.1 for you.

nope. it tried to get 3.1.1.
    I managed to shift-restore it into 3.0 (i'm on windows and we don't have the 2g 3.1.1 jailbreak yet), i'm now re-syncing 499 songs. =)

I meant to say 3.1 there, sorry. So everything's back to normal?
DFU mode saves the day again!
