So it's detected by iTunes, but it won't sync? Does it give an error when attempting to sync?

Did you let fall? or get wet? may be it has hardware problems. Just to be sure your iPod's hard drive si not corrupted, you should scan it with this app. it's tell you what it has and what to do. hope it helps!

Try a hard reset before putting into DFU mode while connected to the computer (and well charged) followed by a clean restore to 2.2 or 2.1 f/w. If you're successful then you can go ahead and try a jailbreak. Is that any help? If not then it's possibly a hardware problem.

take it back to the apple store. Even if the warrenty is up they will help you.

Also 160x errors mean not in dfu mode i think. just take it to the apple store, they can get it into dfu mode and all that stuff.
