So a couple days ago, I booted up my girlfriends jailbroken iPod running 4.0. I wanted to play a game that she downloaded yesterday, but she asked me to copy it to her Games Folder first. So I moved it there, went to boot it up, and the iPod crashed and rebooted itself promptly. It then kept rebooting, it would get to the Apple logo, flash a white screen, then start all over again. I was at school so I couldn't fix it right away.

So I got home, downloaded 4.0 from FelixBruns, and attempted to restore in DFU mode. It fails. 3.1.3. Fails. 3.1.2. Fails. 3.0. Fails. I dont have any SHSH's on file, either locally or at Sauriks server. I pointed my hosts file to saurik though, and verifying passes.

Anyways, my problem is this. Everytime I try to restore 4.0, it either fails with error 9, 3154(I know what that one is), 1604, or 14. If you want more details, when I try to restore 4.0, verifying passes, it reboots the iPod, the progress bar comes up, and then it flashes white and crashes. iPod reboots, to a corrupted boot logo (image below).

Im running the latest iTunes, its an iPod Touch 2G. I have access currently to a Mac and a PC, and firmwares 2.1.1, 3.0, 3.1.2, 3.1.3, and 4.0.

Is there anything I can do to fix this very annoying paperweight?

Did you try a DFU restore? Hold down the power and home buttons as if you're restarting, but after the screen goes out let go of the power button for about 10 seconds, then let go of the home button. Restore through itunes.

    Ok.
Try putting it in recovery mode.
You know, sleep/wake button + home button
do that until the apple logo shows twice and hold it for a couple more seconds and an itunes logo should pop up.
    Now, you have 4.0 shsh?
if so, run tss server from tinyumbrella, and open itunes
    restore the 4.0 firmware.
tell me if you keep having problems..

Okay, I am not a genius with iPod hardware, but I have seen this exact same issue on a laptop before...It was caused by a corroded connection to the screen...

No SHSH's. Im just gunna buy a new one. Might try haggling with Apple first though. Would Apple replace this for free even out of warranty, or would I have to pay? If so, how much?

And anyone know how this could have stemmed from trying to play a game? It seems kinda weird to me.

    Thanks.

Well... They don't replace for free. They never do.
And second, if you take it to Apple, they might figure out that you jailbroke it IF you get it fixed by them.
