Alright, heres some background info you'll want to know about me before calling me a noob here.

I'm Canadian. (Does that mean anything?)
    My dad is a Anti-Mac.
    I've never used a Mac.
    I'm a born PC specialist.
    I'm not rich.

So about this. I'll be graduating this June, from elementary[Grade 8]

and I've requested my dad to purchase me a MacBook from Apple as a present for my graduation. I think it's all fair, I'm a 85%+ average student and very responsible. I don't really care which model, they all seem amazing.. though the more expensive makes me very happy. Back on track, I've done a bit of researching on the MacBook and Mac's in general. Though I have some concerns and questions that I know all of you Mac experts[Teslanaut?

    ] can answer...

    1. I was watching the video tutorials on Apple.com about wireless networking. It said that the Mac would be connected to Airport which I presume would be the router. But I know my dad won't purchase Airport for just one MacBook, we already have a router (D-Link) though. Would the MacBook or any Mac in fact be able to connect to any router or just Airport?
    2. Have there been any sales on MacBooks ever?
    3. To use XP/Vista with BootCamp would I need the Windows CD or software to install it?
    4. How good is the built in iSight webcam and microphone? I believe they're used in the Youtube channels of hotforwords and sxephil
    5. Are they durable parts of equipment? My sisters HP Laptop's Wireless card got burnt out for awhile after the one year warranty expired.
    6. Oh and final last one. Can someone explain the difference between the dock an desktop? I think you can put icons on your desktop as well on your dock, so what's the point?

Now you can call me a noob.

    1. Yes, it will work with your Router.
    2. There was a sale on Christmas on the Mac Books and Mac Book Pros. I believe it was around 10% off?
    3. Yes, you will need a Windows CD to install Windows on your Mac Book. But its easy.
    4. The iSight Camera is actually pretty impressive. I just wish they still sold the firewire one so you could move it around.
    5. It's actually pretty durable. Apple engineers put more thought into designing their products than you may think. If its anything like my iMac, you're gonna be in for the long haul. (Meaning it'll last you a while

) People still even use and buy the old PowerPC Based Macs, And those are over 10 years old. Durable, I think so.

    6. Dock is to Mac OS X as to Task Bar is for Windows. Understand?

EDIT: OH, and lest I forget, Apple gives discounts to Students.

Teslanaut you are just amazing nice info!!

But I got a question? How do they know you are a student? Also what further discourse d they offer?

Also , just general use wise like surfing the web playing WoW just general stuff, and would it be worth buying a mac over a windows OS laptop? In your opinion though teslanaut

They can check your transcripts or you provide your Student ID and they check the with the Schools to see if you are Enrolled.

If all you are going to do is play WoW, Surf the Web, etc, A Mac Book would be fine. Though I'd go with the Mac Book Pro. Just for that Extra Oomph (Power)

By the Way, World of Warcraft runs natively on Mac OS X and Windows. You don't need Windows to play World of Warcraft

Also, in your app list you just posted you stated iLife is shareware.
So it's only a trial thing unless you pay?
I thought it was a full version on all Macs..

I'd suggest the iMac. Unless you want to do it on the Go, get a Mac Book Pro for the bigger screen, since you do Photoshop.

There are alternatives to dream weaver that kind of do a lot better. Most of them are Free too.

Smultron is one. SEEdit Maxi is another. Coda (Shareware)
