Thinking of Getting an SSD for my macbook pro, going to install it alongside with the HD i already have.

this is the SSD i'm looking at getting
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167088

and going to install it in the optical drive using

    http://store.mcetech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=OBSXGB-UNB&Category_Code=STORHDOPTIBAY

Any thoughts on this working out? going to put my OSX and Windows Partition onto the SSD and run everything else off of the HD except for documents which i will also save to the SSD.

Thoughts on Power consumption as well?

Besides the fact that you are going to lose your SuperDrive, you are going to have to do a clean install of your OS on that SSD. Power consumption? it's going to use the same SATA connection that your SuperDrive used. You should be fine.

Im going to do this, you have to put the SSD in the primary bay then the HD in the optical bay, I heard you cant boot off the drive in the optical bay, only access it.

And if I go ahead and put my SSD in the main HD slot and the previous in the optical drive (with the MCE adaption) will I be able to option boot like that or should I put the SSD in the optical, format, then switch? Just placed my order and am going with a 240GB intel SSD

yes you are right carbon copy will be fine.

The SSD must go into the primary sata and the standard hdd has to go into the optical drive sata because for whatever reason MBP's don't support sata 3 on the optical drive sata. you could boot from it without a problem in fact i boot mountain lion off my hdd in the optical drive with no problems, its jus the sata 3 ssd won't be seen in the optical drive

Power consumption is the same as long as you run the spindown command to stop the hdd from spinning after one minute of non-use.

are you symlinking to the hdd or are you just changing your entire user folder to it?

i'm not actually sure what symlinking would entail. I was planning on just moving over whatever i need to boot and settings, keeping things like libraries on the old HD
