Ugh, I've finally decided that I'm going to take my MacBook Pro back to the Apple Store so I can get some fixes.

First of all, I have a slight uneven backlight. The bottom left is darker than the rest, and so it a little bit of the middle of the bottom of the screen.

Secondly, and the more annoyingly, I have hissing and distortion on the right earphone when I plug it in.

Come on Apple, my machine cost £1,300! I expect at least SOME quality testing!

(Just like to point out that, apart from these small issues, I love my MBP and it is the best computer I've ever owned).

Anyway, if my machine does have to go away to be fixed, will Apple provide me with a temporary one? As I'm just about to start my Uni course, and I can't be without a computer.

No temp computer but they are quick when you send it back! I had a superdrive issue and they fixed at the Apple Store the same day

I'll probably need to head home and pick up my iBook then...
Well, they'll have to fix it, but I don't think they'll be able to replace the screen/headphone jack in the store

Thanks, fortunately I'm still in warranty!
Does anyone know how much Apple would charge for a repair if it ran out?

I'm not sure what parts they keep in stop but you never know. I haven't had to actually send one back since my G4 Powerbook but it took less than a week door to door.

Anyway, I went to the apple store today, and took in my MBP.

First of all, my dim screen issue seems to have solved itself... so no need for that to be fixed.
And when I told the guy about my headphone jack, he went out to the back and got some headphones, plugged them in, and the audio was fine!

Turns out, I have some crappy headphones which don't work well with the MacBook Pro's headphone jack.

So that means, to go with the expensive laptop, I have to buy expensive headphones. *cries* Oh well.

    I completely agree.
He plugged some headphones in, played the song which I said caused the most noticeable distortion, and he just stood there for a while... then he handed me the headphones.

    No distortion! >.<
The Apple ones didn't do it either!

I wish I'd just shelled out more and got a more expensive (but better) pair.
