I know what people are gonna say right away: Get a mac!!!

The problem is, if I get it, it will be the 1100$ one, and I'm not sure its powerful enough for me. So here is what I mostly do:
    -watch movies
    -listen to music
    -chat on aim or msn
    -code in jiggy/ html/ javascript/ php
    -photo editing
    -photoshoping
    -movie editing
    -and run the iPhone sdk
-surf a LOT over the internet
    -word processing for essays...etc

Ok, so now I ask you, MacBook 1100$ model or a good laptop pc?

The Mac Book / Mac Book Pro does every single thing that you listed and probably a bit more.

    So go with that.

-watch movies - Use VLC Player or NicePlayer for Movie Files Make sure you have Perian Codec. DVD Player.app for DVDs
-listen to music - iTunes obviously
-chat on aim or msn - Adium for MSN and AIM. aMSN for MSN Video
-code in jiggy/ html/ javascript/ php - Various Apps. Too many to name. Check out the list in the General Apple Chat
-photo editing - Tons. Check General Apple Chat for List.
    -photoshoping - Uhh....... Duh...?
-movie editing - iMovie, Final Cut, Adobe After Effects
    -and run the iPhone sdk
-surf a LOT over the internet - WebKit DEFINITELY or Firefox 3.
-word processing for essays...etc - Pages from iWork is sooo awesome. Tons of others. check Apple General Chat for he list.

You need a Mac for the SDK, to my knowledge.
