So in a couple of weeks i'm going to be starting college and I need a new laptop. I currently use a sony vaio that was a cheap christmas present. I hate it. It crashes constantly. I don't even know what model it is.

Anyway i need a laptop that is going to be durable, lightweight, and fast and has over 80GB of space.
I plan on using it mostly for typing papers, music, movies, going on the interntet, and other school stuff.
I have a budget of $1500 so i want something that will last for awhile.
I don't know how to use a Mac but i'm willing to try something new.

    Any recommendations?

Definitely get a Mac. No virus worries, runs very fast, Leopard is great. Contrary to popular belief, there are actually TONS of Mac apps (see my site, http://freemacappaday.com). Trust me, you'll never go back. I've grown up on Macs and PCs, and Macs are much easier to use and much faster. You can also run Linux or Windows on a Mac if you need. Really, Macs are the better choice.

And that 32 reasons post is bull. It's obvious that the writer has no experience on Macs (apps don't crash at all, almost all of those numbers were total filler or false).

Get a Mac. You won't regret it.

^True. I used windows all my life until I got a mac, and I got used to it in less than a week.

Also, Mac has quicksilver, which is possibly the best application on the planet, and I don't think there's any alternatives to it on windows.

Once you go Mac you'll never go back.

    Thanks

Well thanks for all the advice guys.
But....ive decided to go with a pc.
    The main reasons are.

    1. Apple is supposed to be coming out with a new macbook within the next 6 months or so. i dont want to buy a macbook only to see a new redesigned version come out right after i buy it.

    2. Warranty- The Apple Protection plan is not quite as the warranty i will recieve from Circuit City.

    3. Price-the laptop i'm looking at is $500 less than a mac with the same specs plus support. i kno that macs are easier to use but i dont want to pay that much for ease of use.

    4. Lack of software compatablity- Not every program wor even the mac genius girl told me that a pc would be better for some technical programs like CAD and others. Also i have to download

5.SD card reader- i know that this is rather trivial but i really would like to have an integrated sd reader.

    6. Battery- Not user replaceable

    7. More USB ports

    8. Boot Camp- its not an easy straightfoward process to set up

Not i just have to decide between 64-bit and 32 bit...
