So, one thing I noticed was that the Mac Pro (if configured on the apple website) costs : £11,189.99.

    Breakdown:

    CPU(s): 2x 3.2GHz Xeons - £1,302
    RAM: 32GB - £5,637
    HDDs: 4x 1TB - £1,056.04
    GPU: NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 1.5GB - £1.762

etc etc (yes I know they don't add up, but you get the idea)

But whats just plain insanity is that for 32GB of RAM its £5,637!

So now I've found a way to get a Mac Pro of pretty much equal performance.

Go with this config on the Apple website:

    # Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (CPU)
    # 2GB (2x1GB) (RAM)
    # 320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s (HDD)
    # ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB

    = £2,822.99

Don't put anything in the other HDD bays, and configure the rest to your liking (additional software etc)

    Then, go buy these:

    16GB DDR2 Memory (x2)
    1.5TB HDD (x4)
    Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB

Note: You can buy 2 of the Graphics cards and use them in CrossFireX.

So the total you would pay for that is:

    Baseline (From Apple) = £2,822.99
    16GB RAM (x2) = £574.88
    1.5TB HDD (x4) = £496.56
    GPU = £436.94

    = £4,331.37 incl. VAT

Which is a total saving of: £6,858.62

You can OC the CPUs but that would void the warranty, the CPU slots allow any other Xeon (Socket 771 i think) so you could go up to 4GHz (OC'd)

Haha, I really hate apple at times for ripping people off.

    Just like I can get:

    2.4GHz
    4GB RAM
    500GB HDD

MacBook 13" for £1264.64. and you can't even get 500GB HDD on the Apple website, only 320GB

In an approximation from the Apple website it would be £1,480.

Again a decent saving of £215.36

lol, I don't see any need for it, but some people just wanna max out their systems. This thing (at full spec) is more powerful than my schools server.

Apple isn't really THAT expensive with their base systems. It's just their upgrades that eat at your wallet. So with the Mac Pro, there's no point to upgrade through apple, since it's a tower.

That's what I'm outlining, although you void the warranty if u upgrade the CPU.

Then again, in the MacBook it eats your pocket. Compare:

    This to the MacBook 13"

The first Laptop is miles better

    Specs aren't everything.
I've used higher powered laptops than my macbook (2.4GHz Aluminum , 2GB of RAM)
But still found them frustrating to use.
The lack of multi-touch is depressing.
Vista itself is self explanatory (Win7 isn't that bad , but still)
Not to mention it didn't seem much faster.
Or really , faster at all.
    Same really.
