    Hey people,

I just wanted to see what peoples reactions would be if Apple made OS X 10.7 a closed system, so that we can only run software/applications that have been signed by Apple. This would mean that 'Lion' (one of the suspected names) would be bundled with an appstore of it's own.

Jailbreaking is a way to open the iPhone's iOS but how easy would it be to 'jailbreak' a Mac?

The main reason i see the iPad not as a computer, but as a mobile device is that the system is closed, 'Lion' (one of the suspected names) just wouldn't be the same if it were closed, so what's your opinion? Is this good, bad or just a rumour?

I think this would be a bad move by Apple and don't see too much benefit they would get from doing this.

    Thanks again, Peebrian!

That is impossible and would be very idiotic of Apple.
Mobile Devices are different then Desktop and Notebook computers.

I'd generally agree with this. However, stranger things have happened.

I think that therre will probably be an App Store, or something comparable, but it won't be as locked down as iOS. Still, it'll be interesting to see what ends up happening here.

I know that there is a very, very low chance that this kinda thing might happen, but if you google 'Mac os x 10.7' all you get is blogs/forums with this kinda rumour.

It's because of what they've done with iOS. I doubt it will actually translate into a closed desktop OS. That'd be pretty crazy.

Yeh, but how many customers would they lose if it were closed, hypothetically

They'd Lose me if they became a closed OS ... I'd go back to Windows.

yeah if they did end up doing it i would either go back to windows or stay on 10.6 as long as i could. but that depends on the community that develops if they do take the step, you never know there could be a similar community like this one for a similar option to jailbreaking but for the mac.

I'd just stay at 10.6 and not upgrade
