Hey guys I recently purchased an Ipod touch a week ago and I lost it. i haven't registered it but I do have the original box so I can register it as soon as I get home. My question is would it even help me on finding my Ipod. If someone tries to restore it throught itunes would apple be able to track it down.
    I want my ipod back...dammit

Unfortunately though it has been considered before, there is no way to track down the iPod using the serial number. Though it is theoretically possible for Apple to track down iPods when they plug the iPods into their system to perform an IP trace as to where the ipod is coming from, which would require information to be sent from iTunes to Apple, they don't do that.

Unfortunately, your serial number only helps Apple keep track of AppleCare issues and your warranty. I don't think there is any way to call Apple and tell them to be on the lookout for anyone trying to register an iPod with your serial number.

All communication devices made within the last couple of years have GPS tracking software/hardware included whether you know it or not.
To prove it, simply call your service provider ( on your cell or iphone)and pretend that you're lost and need them to tell you where you are. They'll tell you in about 10 seconds.

This is an iPod Touch - not a cell phone. Are you suggesting that all iPods are now bugged?

Lol, sure this would work, but only with GPS or cell hardware. They can tell where you are by triangulating your signal from the nearest cell towers to you.

And the Ipod Touch does not have GPS or cell hardware inside it.

    lol
