After a couple restores/jailbreaks on different firmwares, etc. it seems as though I have a bunch of disappearing HD space.. either iTunes just doesnt detect it right or there is excess trash left on the drive after jailbreaking.

    Any ideas?

8GB iPod touch is actually 7.08GB because of the OS.
16GB iPod touch is actually 14.64GB because of the OS.

leopard takes up less than a gigabyte so that is space saving but 2.0 is NOT if you upgrade to 2.0.1 its gonna take up even more space

Actually It's LESS than 7.08 i beleive. 7.08 is the formatted capacity i think, but dont quote me. also isnt it weird how there's 78mb "other" while the firmware is 224 mb :s

It is a 16GB hard drive.

The firmware is not shown on this list. Therefor, the 7.08GB capacity.

Its not just apple who does it, all hard drives are measured like that.
