    Hey there

I'm looking to get a new computer because mine currently is crap. It can't even run Starcraft I, a game which was released in 1998. I have restored several times, but I think its time to get a new one. I would be getting a laptop, for obvious reasons (portability). Here are what I would use it for:

    -Chatting with friends
    -Surfing the web
-Schoolwork (Microsoft Office is a must)
-Some graphics (mainly GIMP. Maybe Photoshop, if I end up buying it)
    -Listening to music
    -Casual downloading
-Very casual gaming. Maybe 1 or 2 games. I already have an Xbox 360 so I would use the PC for games that aren't console based (Starcraft I, Starcraft II, etc)

My price range is $600-$900. I do NOT plan on getting a MacBook. Don't tell me to get a MacBook.

I don't know much about computers, but get something from HP, or at least not from Dell. I've had nightmares with both Dell laptops and desktops. My HP laptop is great. Haven't had one problem with it.

I love my M11X and it would be perfect for what you want. You could save some cash and get the Core 2, and it will still run perfectly.

Battery life is pretty important, I'd like to use/carry it around the house all day without having to worry about dragging along an annoying power cord.
Size isn't too important but I'd say 15" is a maximum lol.

What about a netbook? It would handle all of that and be super portable with great battery life. About half the price too. But if you want to spend that much I would suggest a 15 inch with as much ram as you can find.

You don't want a MacBook, can I ask why? Even if you still don't want one it does seem ideal...
