I'm thinking about getting a Wii. Mainly for Wii Sports (Bowling, lol.), Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing.

Looking through some sites, is it really like $400 to get set up with a Wii and a couple games? MK and AC are both looking like they're $50 just about everywhere, and then from what I've seen, there are necessary accessories that need to be bought on top of that.

Now, I know ZERO about the console, aside from the fact that Mario Kart and Animal Crossing (two of my all time favorite games) are out on it.

Is it really that much to get a Wii? For Gamecube, I remember spending ~$120 and getting the console, an extra controller, and a pile of games. Including MK, AC, and some RPGs.

A Wii is now 200 USD so with the two games it should only be $300. I would steer away from the Wii though; do you have any other systems?

I have a Gamecube, a PSX, and a DS. Although all of them are packed away somewhere. >_>

I like how everyone's like "Eww, Wii? Get a PS3 noob", yet the Wii sales on the first day surpassed the 360 and PS3 sales COMBINED.

    Spend 100$ more, and get a xbox360 or PS3

Get a PS3 if you dont want your Xbox dying.

Why don't you people actually ask what kinda games he likes? He mentioned Mario Kart and Animal Crossing. What is on the 360 or PS3 have that is anywhere near those? The PS3 and 360 might be great systems, but it isn't for everyone. If he wants a Wii, he'll get a Wii. Don't just go around dissuading him just because of your opinion on the console.

Do they have Mario Kart and Animal Crossing? No, didn't think so. Stop telling him to get some other console.

It shouldn't cost you too much to get the console, the two games, and an extra controller. Plus, you can use a gamecube control for Mario Kart. Shouldn't cost you more than $400 max.
