thats the problem... the screen is black as night just as it would be in the off position and as i stated i tried all the forms of forcing it into recovery mode now i feel that i have got a new paperweight on its way... itunes isnt detecting it at all... switched usb ports tried on a diff comp, restarted like every other time.

    tried this...
thats from the link in my first statement... although i dont think i did it right since my ipod couldnt even be detected by itunes "PERIOD"... starting to feel like i messed up a good piece of tech...

You need to enter it in to DFU mode:
Hold down the home and power button for 10 seconds.
Let go of the power button while holding the home button.
In about 20-30 seconds iTunes will recognize it and you can restore.
