So my brother has this Ipod touch that's locked, he forgot the passcode and I can't unlock it.

I searched about this, and I found out I had to restore. So I try that, goes into recovery mode and I click the restore button on itunes. A small window comes up and says I need to update, and the button appears 'restore and update'. I click it and by the time the update was done downloading, it said I needed the passcode to finish updating(and perform restore).

So I'm stuck here. To unlock I need to restore, to restore I need to update and to update I need to unlock it. :3
    Help?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that the iPod is owned by your brother, and not stolen.

Enter DFU mode, and then restore.

That's only necessary if you want to restore to a particular (i.e. one that you specify) firmware.

Well then I'm stuck...I'm pretty sure I did it correctly, I got the message about recovery mode, clicked ok and I'm in the same place again. If I click restore it brings out the same 'restore and update' button.

Yeah, that's supposed to happen, except this time, when you hit Restore and Update, you shouldn't get the passcode required message.
