notice the left column where it has the names of the ipods.
I guess the "official" apple-given name is "iPod touch 2nd Generation Fall '09 32gb/64gb" (thats a mouthful)

    here's the link: http://developer.apple.com/ipod/cases.html

    Yes it has been posted.

However names don't matter, and they are keeping away from calling it 'iPod touch 3G,' as it sounds like it is a phone. Personally, I don't really care what it is called; it is the updates that matter. And I guarantee you that the 3G is faster than the 2G.

if only everyone could keep it this cool on the forums.

yeah i was gonna get the new one, but I have the 2g and I decided just to live with being outdated. =)

It's been known since the release day, probably before.

I upgraded from the 2g and am very happy with it.

I got the 3G because my 2G disappeared. The difference is tremendous. One subtle thing I've noticed that has been wonderful is that the wifi antenna is significantly stronger.

If you have an ebay acct, or something similar, I'd unload the 2G and put the proceeds towards a new 3G.

Thing is this is from a purely technical design view, so I don't think the actual product is that.

EDIT: In the .pdf the 3G is called "2nd Generation V2". Bit unnecessary don't you think?

Apple only calls the iPod touch 3G a 2G because they don't want to confuse/mislead customers that it has 3G phone network.
