Since I sold my 1G touch, I have yet to buy a new iPod. I was going to buy a new 2G, but i was temporarily distracted by the shine of a new PS3.

Now however, I have saved up enough for a new iPod (I have enough to buy up to a 16GB Touch, or about $300). I'm wondering though, what is the likelihood of apple releasing new generation or just new iPods again this year?

I've heard some rumors on engadget that Apple just bought all of Samsungs's flash memory until like April, and they think this probably points to a new release of some kind. Thing is, I don't really want to buy a new iPod now if they are going to release new ones later this year or maybe Q1 of 2010.

So basically, just asking what's the likelihood of new iPods or new generation iPods this year or early next year?

Apple usually releases their iPhones and iPod touch releases on a yearly basis so far; at the fiscal second quarter, they usually announce the new firmware (Jan 2007, Mar 2008, Mar 2009), and then in late Q3/early Q4, the release of iPhone. September (end Q4), is the release of the iPod touch. And then the cycle starts again.

I would be shocked if they didn't. 100% definitely.

Here's my guess on what the new 2 new iPhones and the touch is:

    1st iPhone: iPhone HD

2nd iPhone: Some type of an iPhone Nano, like maybe a slightly smaller screen and 4GB capacity.

    New Touch: iPod Touch HD

4GB capacity for the smaller iPhone would be weak noting that the shuffle has that capacity. I'd say it would at least be 8GB.
