So the cable is why shipment of the iPhone takes so long? I'm quite happy I still got one year left on my contract - they should have enough cables at that point.

P.S.: With mini usb they wouldn't have those problems at all. Standards aren't bad.

They did not use the standard maybe because of their "Think Different" approach?

Exactly - it's fun to bash Apple for not going with a standard, but when they actually improve upon the standard, well... that's just progress.

Exactly I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years the the standard will change to something similar to the lightning cable. Small and reversible.

unfortunately I can find little reason that this is an improvement, except within its own redesign of a proprietary cable. Mini-USB...it's universal and already used across so many devices it is always easy to find a cable no matter where you are...

Apple only has one reason for doing this- Long term profits. Now they can sell new cables, and a new adapter.

Reversibility, you don't think that is a good feature?I hate USBs you have to try them both ways about 5 times before it finally fits.

I agree so strongly with what you just said! The number of times I attempt both sides of the USB about three or four times before it goes in….would be so handy just to *click* with no issue!!!

Can't bloody well wait to get my new iPod Touch with Lightning Port! Will make things so much easier when on the train.

While Mini-USB is "universal", it's flimsy and still difficult to plug in. I for one don't have about 10 Mini USB cables lying around. I do however, have Micro-USB cords every in every which direction, along with Apple 30-pins.

People don't have to use "Standards" in order for it to be effective. What's wrong with; Buying a quality product, getting a quality cable/adapter that has many benefits over the cheaper and easier to implement "Standard" that lasts longer and is infinitely easier to connect? Also, you bloody well carry a small cable with you if you need to charge on the go. It's _not_ hard.

And I never knew that Mini-USB was the Standard. I thought it was USB by itself? Mini and Micro USB are diversions from that Standard, aren't they?
