I have a question regarding website which post links to movies on their websites for their users to download.

The websites have disclaimers saying that they do not host and did not upload the files but simply found the files around the internet and compiled them into one post.

I am wondering about how legal this is or not? As far as I know, I believed that as they did not upload the files but rather only posted links to them, they are technically not do anything illegal. Am I mistaken?

Also, say this was illegal, what would someones steps be on removing the illegal links? Would they immediately press-charges or would they firstly ask to have the post removed and if it isn't removed would press charges?

    Thanks in advanced

It's illegal to redistribute any copyright work without permission.

I think we get the idea, and if anyone doesn't they need to get educated as these things can have a way of coming back to haunt you. Piracy of copyright material is illegal. I happens and it's been going on since the advent of cassettes in the 1970's but it's still illegal. Ignorance is no excuse.
