Light? The only light I saw in the linked video was the reflection of the ceiling light and the backlight of the iPhone.

iPhone 3G dosen't have a light. Only the iPhone 4 has a light on the back for a flash. Pay attention....

If you watch the video, it does appear to have some sort of led light. I was sceptical too until I watched it, I dunno what it is. So get your facts right before you tell people to pay attention

it is an ambient light sensor for auto-brightness and for calls.

That's correct, but I don't think it's used for calls. If you want to see take off the case and hold it up where the sun is shining on it. Mine 3 and it looks like this .: when I hold it up

It's always purple, you just never notice it half the the time.

I know EXACTLY what that is (it took me a minute to realize). It is, in fact, the ambient light sensor or possibly could be the proximity censor. The way it works is with an infrared light (the same light used in TV remotes). This type of light frequency is invisible to the human eye, but can be picked up in camera, thus: resulting in an "LED looking appearance."

    I hope I helped,
    Alex

P.S. You can try it yourself with any iPhone (iPhone 4 probably works too) or your TV remote. Just point the camera toward the led on the end of the remote and push a button.
