way to go to all who have successfully jailbroken 2g! After MUCH reading since the teathered jb release, I came to a simple conclusion.

n00b+teathered jb = issues = many posting "HELP!" = drowning forum

    The bigger problem? me=n00b

I shall wait for unteathered jb and I recommed all those in the same boat as me (you know who you are) wait with me.

The first step is admitting you have a problem

It does indeed take some knowledge about how this kind of thing works to do it right. I myself only jailbreak for themes and application development.

cyW00ds gui program for Windows is amazing and made the JB'ing easy as pie. Its also the tool i use to reboot and it works perfect also.

Hey, I've had an iPod touch 2G since Christmas, and I only new about the iPod touch jailbreaks a few weeks before redsn0w lite came out. The night redsn0w came out, I understood it was tethered (and what that meant), but i knew nothing past that, including how to apply this manually to my iPod. But, I waited, about an hour, and instructions on how to this on windows came out, and in about 4 hours I jailbroke it (mind you, i only knew how to cd in command prompt. That was my extent of CMD knowlege.). I learned through doing. And I know how to help using n00b language, so PM me if you want some help, i've already helped several others do their jailbreaks (I can also answer any questions you have about it personally).

What makes you think that the untethered JB, if/when it comes, will be "easy" from the start?

I just got my iPod a couple weeks ago, my first Apple product ever. First thing I did was jailbreak it. If you just follow what people tell you, and use a bit of common sense, there's nothing to worry about.
