So i have seen some people talking about making symlinks on their ipods prior to updating to 1.1.3 in the hope that they will be able to access things after they update.

    Is this possible?

And also how were the previous firmwares decrypted? If the method is the same for 1.1.3 then surely the new apps can be extracted and made freely available?

No, Erica of TUAW confirmed that symlinks and OkToPrep (which used mknod) don't work when upgrading to 1.1.3.
