Keep in mind that I know this won't work, but I'm the kind of person who likes to know why things won't work.

So, let's say a friend of mine has the ECID 00000000002 (I honestly don't care if that's the correct number of digits, I don't feel like looking it up). He never bothered to back up his SHSH blobs. He's tethered with blackra1n. Now, MY iPod has the ECID 00000000001. I've backed up my SHSH.

4.0 comes out, and my friend wants to upgrade. He's heard that there's a jailbreak, but it only works 50% of the time. (Theoretically). He says that 4.0 isn't worth it without jailbreak, so he wants to upgrade, test it, and if it doesn't work, he'll downgrade. However, Apple no longer signs 3.1.3.

So, could I SSH into his iPod, find wherever the ECID is stored, and edit the file to be the same as mine? That way I could e-mail him my backed-up sigs and we'd be set.

    Just LAL... google it?
    ECID is not a file...
it is unique number of every device and i guess it has hardware nature..
