I don't like this. It feels as if they are blaming Apple for environment issues. I'm sure they have contributed to it, but lets compare to other companies. Like Microsoft, Google, and other high-end companies.

I don't think the iPad, or any other Apple product for that matter, is any "greener" or dirtier than similar products from the competition. They all use similar parts from similar factories in similar areas.
It is interesting, though, since most people don't really understand the amount of waste created from the manufacturing of their products.
Props to Apple on the solar facility. It's good to see initiative towards cleaner energy.

That solid block of aluminum Apple uses for the MacBook Pro and other Macs definitely isn't thrown away, it's probably recycled it's more useful that way. Also, not having products made of plastic and instead using earth materials like glass and aluminum helps a helluva lot. Also, consider that other companies that you say make "similar" products are the ones with all the plastic in their products. Plastic is one of the worst offenders when it comes to environmental pollution. Plus, not all plastic is recyclable, especially not the types found in these phones.

Unfortunately, a lot of e-waste doesn't make it to the recycling plant and is actually given to China where people strip what they can for the precious metals used in the products. I've heard similar for Africa, but don't know much about that. The best way to conserve is to not have the product in the first place, but of course, it really is up to the person. I personally try not to buy unless I have to (which can be difficult at times ;) ), but as for others, they may want to buy the latest and greatest asap, which they have every right to do so if they desire.

So may I dump Mercury into and/or defecate in your water source? The idea isn't that the resources are here for us, it's how we use them. Luckily, not everyone shares your sentiment and therefore the democratic process kicks in and slows you guys down. ;)
