ipod touch after 6-7 months of not using it, as i have a new car stereo that has an ipod adapter and had to reinstall itunes on my new laptop, as old one finally packed in few months ago.

i think i need to restore my ipod touch cos i cannot remember the lock code for it and its not being picked up on my new laptop and itunes for me to restore it.

is there any other way i can restore my ipod or is it useless now?

    cheers in advance

If your iPod is on the screen with the usb and iTunes icon, then you're not doing DFU mode correctly. A DFU'd iPod has a black screen.

done the dfu correctly, but its still coming up with the error code 1611. black screen remains until itune starts to 'prepare' the ipod for restore and it just continues like that until the error message comes up 2-3 minutes later. then it ipod returns to the usb/itunes screen.

Well how are you putting it into DFU. Just to make sure your not doing it wrong.

Are you using legally obtained firmware?
Press RESTORE in iTunes, dont Shift-Click to downloaded firmware.

    You can also try this:

    Go to Start > Run
    Type %appdata%
Go To Apple Computer > iTunes > iPod Software Updates

Erase all the firmware files in that folder.

Put your iPod back into DFU Mode and plug it in (if its not already)
Press RESTORE again, and let iTunes download the firmware.

    Good Luck,
