Hi, I just bought a new ipod 32gb 2nd Gen from Amazon and it arrives tomorrow - I ordered it over the weekend and then BAM Spirit hits, lol.

Basically, I got the 2nd gen because 1. it already has an untethered jailbreak, and 2. it cost slightly less ($249 2G vs $269 3G). I'm wondering if I should return it and change it up for the 3G instead now that Spirit is out.

As far as I know, the only differences between 2g and 3g in this situation are A. 3G is a bit faster, and B. 2G is the MB model so it's "easier" jailbreak (i.e. none of the blob-backup stuff. I think. I don't need to save my shsh-whatever-blob on 2G right?). Thanks in advance for any advice!

The 2G isn't bad, but I'd definitely take a 3G over it for a $20 difference. Especially with an untethered jailbreak finally out.

I assume you are talking about a 8gb third gen?

If so, there is no point in returning. The 8gn 3rd gen is exactly the same as the 2nd gen in hardware terms (RAM, processor etc), and doesn't have the speed increases you talk about. You would need to get a 32 or 64gb model for that.

The only difference between the 2ng gen and the 8gb 3rd gen is the updated BootROM which (currently) stops your device being "pwned for life".

Thanks for the replies. I might return the 32gb 2G for a 3G, not sure I want to mess with the shipping hassle, but it's sounding like it'd be worth it. Thanks again!

The 2G wont support 4.0 as well as the 3G
