The iPod touch isn't an ipod at all, essentially. It runs on an OS, and wouldn't that make it a computer? The ipod touch and iphone both run on OSX leapord (sp?), not a normal iPod firmware.

Therefore, would it not make sense to start hacking this thing like a computer and not like an iPod?

    Just thinking.

The IPOD touch is an ipod. That's why they called it an IPOD touch. It's an ipod that runs an OS. It should still be treated as an IPOD with an OS.

Saying its not an IPOD at all is like saying a Laptop is not a computer at all, since its a different looking device that is running windows XP.

Just because it looks different, doesnt mean it should be treated any different.

why is this the first time anyone has though of this?

blah, it is similar to winders XP and winders Mobile. even thought the big "A"(ss hole) says this is OS X, it is not. it is not able to run native OS X applications and is stripped down to 150 MB. it is OS X Mobile and nothing more. if Apple wanted to make it bigger and faster, like in the Newton II, they could add a more advance Kernel that could run the Appllications required. for now, this thing is an ipod with a pretty interface.
