I just want to know why are we not allowed to post a custom IPSW file that is made with pwnage tool for the iphone 3G or 3GS so windows users can just restore and be jailbroken? Seeing as the software is free on those devices so it wouldn't be considered illegal to distribute them, plus iPod touch users won't be able to use the file anyways...Just wondering.

Just because they are "free" to download, YOU do not have rights to distribute them. The code they contain is copyrighted and the sole property of Apple.

The Dev Team respects this as well... This is why you must provide your own copy of the IPSW of the firmware you are trying to Jailbreak. In this way, the Dev Team's jailbreaking tools do not contain any code from Apple. This is the main reason why Apple can't take down the Dev Team's tools.

they are free to use, because any software you buy, you're buying a license to use it and not to distribute it. Works with any software, whether if its freeware or shareware.
