If Gruber says it's going to the iPad Air, it's going to be the iPad Air.

Someone tell John you don't need the same resolution on the smaller iPad as the large one to have a retina display. It's the pixel density, not resolution that makes a display "retina"

iPad mini sounds alright but I think Apple might wanted to choose a classier name.

I had the same reaction. John Gruber seems pretty clueless overall though and mostly spews fanboy rants so I'm not surprised.

And the resolution is what makes up the pixel density.

I don't think it's gonna be the iPad Air/Mini. Both names they've used for other devices. I also don't think it's going to just be iPad, that's the 3rd gen's name-right?
I don't have alternate names though.

Yeah, so many people get confused on what retina, and what pixel density is. Pretty much both mean it's a really high resolution LCD display, nothing else special. Then the images and text are higher resolution them selves so you can see them and not little tiny stuff. Aka a rMBP with switchresx.

Yeah, I don't think it will have retina unless they want to have another resolution for devs to handle. I highly doubt it will have the regular iPad's resolution.
