try doing a charge cycle by charging to 100 then decharging to 0 then charging to 100 again, another is to use the least amount of mobile substrates as you can so not that many things are running. If it still doesnt last long you can always replace your battery for $70 at apple or cheaper by doing it yourself or at a repair shop

Many applications and backrounding things you do while jailbroken use more energy than if you didn't/only used standard iPod apps.

I thought I had the same problem, so I unjb'd and upgraded. I get much better battery life now... so yes, I "personally" believe it's true.

But then... if you touch your screen a lot, the battery life stinks on these devices. I leave it plugged in all the time

Well what MobileSubstrate addons are running? What applications do you have backgrounded? These are all factors.

mobile substrates are backgrounders that are used to run winterboard, poof, sbsettings, ect
    3.0+ fixes battery issues
