id like to know which of the dictionaries are best, as they are expensive and would like to know before i buy.

there is wisdom (in your top 10) but also the "Japanese" app and the Longman EJ.

i wish apple would introduce a try before you buy.

What's a good English-Japanese dictionary and vice versa. I'll be going to Japan as part of a 3 month school exchange, so was wondering what a good dictionary would be. I've googled around, but I'm not too sure what i'm looking for.

theres a number of cheap ones (and free ones avaialable for wedict) but id like to know the best "good" one. there is the Longman E-J and one called Wisdom that both look as though you need to have a fair understanding of kanji. I like the look of one called "Japanese" but its expensive. if im paying close to $30 for an app id like to be able to try it first, or at least get a good review.

if you dont speak any japanese, maybe one of the "phraseboooks" would be better than a dictionary. with japanese, just knowing the word is often not enough. you gotta know how to use it.

You can point your browser here - iphone.jisho.org
and bookmark/save it as an "app". and it will be available on your phone/ipod touch when you are around Wifi.

Thanks for the other app names!
