What is the advantage of jailbreaking your iPod touch? What's so good about it? There's an app store, so why jailbreak?

Jailbreaking gives you access to third party application that Apple doesn't allow.
That's just a brief, but it goes way deeper than that.

It allows you to get apps and tweaks that the App Store won't allow.
For instance, I jailbroke because I wanted the numeric battery, a dock that doesn't look like a cheese grater, the ability to runs applications in the background, change system fonts, enable TV out... and SBSettings, which is quite possibly the most useful app out there.

If you can't think of a reason you should jailbreak, then don't jailbreak. Simple as that.

Depends on what type of iPod you have. If you have a 1st gen, QuickPwn will get the job down easily without a restore. If you have a 2nd gen, RedTool works fine. You can find more information/downloads in other sections of this forum, but both programs are pretty self-explanatory.

i dunno if anyone has said this but the reason i jailbroke my iPod Touch 2G is that i wanted to customise the look of it and i found out that it was working fine so i was happy until my apps all stopped working and i couldnt use it properly so i just went to beta 2 of 3.0
