I really want to update to 3.1 but I don't want to lose categories and my emulators and stuff! Anyone know how I can do this?

You will have to restore, meaning it will erase everything. As Scribe has said, download Aptback from Cydia and backup all Cydia applications.(rarely works though). Then create a backup via iTunes.

After upgrading to 3.1.2, jailbreak first and then restore from your backup. You can also try Pkgbackup from Cydia, although it's a paid application.

Pkgbackup is just as useless as the aptbackup i have read that people have got nothing back after upgrading. i think the best way if it can be done is backingup actual files onto a pc/laptop.....................sudeki300
