I was wondering if it was ok to get a friend to jailbreak my ipod for me. With their computer. I am only on firmware 2.1.1 and haven't updated because it would take way too long with my crappy internet. And I wouldnt have the slightest clue how to jailbreak anyway. So would it be ok for him to do it on his computer then I sync everything I had before from my computer?

    His ipod is 2G 16GB 3.0. I want 3.0 too..

You can do it on your friends computer, I jailbroke my friends iPod touch 2nd generation, and she didn't lose any music when I was done

Would he have to download 3.0 again? How would that work?

You have to pay for the upgrade to 3.0, didn't see that part of your post, sorry. When I jailbroke my friends iPod we were all on the same firmware before, 2.2.1. If I were you I would upgrade to 3.0, it's always good to be up to date on everything.

If you still want to jailbreak on 2.2.1, download the 2.2.1 firmware here, and chose it as the IPSW file in redsn0w. I got the 2.2.1 firmware in this thread.

Ah yes, pay.. that's what I meant. haha

I couldn't decide between 2.2.1 and 3.0 but soon most things will be compatible for 3.0. How much does it cost?

Ah thank you. But would it be better to get 3.0 now rather than later? Will I ever even need it later?

    Thanks

Yes, it'd be worth getting now. The 2.x.x firmware isn't going to be updated, and upgrading to 3.0 won't get any cheaper.

3.0 just has some features that 2.2.1 doesn't have like spotlight. You can see all of them here. I would update if you really want copy and paste, and whatever else is on that list. If you have extra money now, go for it, if you don't just do it later when you do.
