Heyy guys. Ill get straight to it.
I need a new phone. So I am going to the Optus (Australian mobile carrier) store soon, and am going to set up a $99 per month contract with Optus for 24 month, and will get the iPhone 3GS 32GB. Now my problem is, whilst on the contract, can I Jailbreak?

I've heard stories that people who were on contracts, had to get their contracts pulled, and pay the remaining price of the iPhone, because they Jailbroke it.

My question is not whether or not they will find out, but whether or not they will cancel the contract and make me pay the full price.

Because I reeaaallly can not afford that.

    Thanks in advance.

    That's bullsh*t!
Just pay your bill on time. The phone is yours no matter what!
No one's going to do anything.
Don't lose sleep over jailbreaking your iPhone & think the Feds are gonna come get you! 

You can always restore to a stock Apple firmware as the DFU recovery mode is hardwired. Jailbreak away (though note as of the date of this post there is no 3GS jailbreak for 3.1 and you should also read Saurik's blog post featured here)!

Maybe they're talking about the phones warranty? Not the actual phone plan. =p
