Hi, this is my first post here, and I was not sure where this should go, but I guess this seemed the most appropriate.

I am thinking about buying a new Ipod Touch for Christmas, and I have a few questions. If I were to get a brand new ITouch, what version would it most likely be? Will this be able to be jailbroken? If a new version of ITouch were jailbroken, will it be able to have functions(uses) as good as a lower version(jailbroken) Ipod Touch? Thanks in advance.

The 2G iPod touch cannot be Jailbroken as of yet. A JB is being developed. Most likely it would be 1.1.5 or if lucky 2.0. If you are Jailbroken, the advantage is that you get better apps for free that usually are not on the app Store.

    Does this answer your question/s?

1.1.5 or 2.0? For when you buy a new iPod Touch?
    No, definately not..
All new 2G (if you don't know what this means, look at the bottom of my post) iPod Touches come with 2.1.1. The new processor is the main problem with the 2G jailbreak.

For more information about the 2G and/or the upcoming 2G jailbreak:
    2G forum
Chronic Dev Team Blog - These guys are working on the jailbreak.
iPhone Dev Team - They're currently focusing on the iPhone 3G unlock, but people suspect they are working on the 2G jailbreak as well.

I don't know how new you are to this. I might be mistaking you for being REALLY new, but anyway:
2G - 2nd generation. iPod Touches were upgraded around early September.
iPhone 3G - The 3G doesn't designate generation in this case, it just means it uses the 3G network.

Just a heads up on the common knowledge around here if you didn't know already.

Yep, that's a first generation, so it's jailbreakable.

I kinda wish I would have seen that before I bought my 16gb 2G. But I'm pretty happy with mine.
