Has anyone had success trying to jailbreak iPod Touch in Ubuntu 9.04 with Virtualbox. I tried doing that and once I loaded my iPod Touch in DFU mode it woudn't connect back in to Virtualbox. I even tried checking in the menu of devices to see if it appears and it does but its grayed out. I had my iPod Touch jailbroken already so I don't need any new tutorials. I just want to know how to make my iPod connect to iTunes in Virtualbox when it's in DFU mode.

    I read this:

I think that may be the problem with me. Anyone know if this works?

Don't use VirtualBox to Jailbreak. Use RedSn0w 0.3. Way easier. Good pick on VirtualBox. Better than VMWare.

I have jailbroken my brothers iPod Touch 2G using VirtualBox (XP sp2) on my Ubuntu installation.

I had to use the very first redsnow release to prep it on Ubuntu (permission errors when tried from the VM) then restore the final firmware (24kpwn'd) under VirtualBox. Make sure to be hawk eyed and keep reconnecting the usb because every time it changes modes it will not auto reconnect. (3 times)

What about when you are in DFU mode? I've tried and DFU is not being recognized in it.

It isn't supposed to be recognized in DFU mode.

It recognizes it fine. Are you reconnecting the device under the USB section every time it changes modes?

You do realize that redsn0w has a native Linux release, right?

    sudo privileges

after exporting my windows appliance and importing it running virtualbox with sudo privileges, ipad in recovery or dfu mode was recognized. you need to active the ipad usb device in the virtualbox usb panel - but with sudo privileges you are able to do it.
