Does it have a significant effect on it?

To be honest, when I do jailbreak, all I am really going to do is play jailbroken apps on it, nothing else. I don't use Wi Fi.

Also, can someone give me a tutorial for jailbreaking OS4.1 iPod Touch 8GB 2G MC model?

Thanks in advanced to all repliers..

No effect at all. If you feel an effect its probably the device next door.

Follow the guide in my sig. Its foolproof. And if you are stuck on it use TinyUmbrella to kick yourself out of the problem.

I just realised, my sleep button isn't working (Broken), does that mean I can't jailbreak at all?

No, the jaikbreak itself does not decrease the battery life. It's certain things you install that make the battery life drain faster
