Well i really dont wanna have to download a big file...
So is there a tool to jailbreak directly on the ipod?
OH right how big is the 2.2.1 firmware file, because i heard os 3.0 is bigger. I can probobally download it at my local library... There i can download 40 meg in like 2 minutes.
But yeah... If anyone has a link to get 2.2.1 ipsw file and a jailbreaking tool with a GUI that will jailbreak 2.2.1

First of all, To jailbreak the 2G, you need redsn0w, therefore you need the IPSW file.
Secondly, Giving links out to the 2.x or 3.x firmware is Illegal, so you will have to buy them.

Redsn0w isn't a GUI, but it is unbelievably easy to use, all you need to do is put your iPod in DFU mode, then run Redsn0w and follow the instructions.

On firmware (2.2.1), Use Redsn0w 0.3 (can be found here or here)
On firmware (3.0), Use Redsn0w 0.7.2 (can be found here or here)

To find the firmware files, once you have bought them through iTunes, they will appear in one of the following locations:

    For XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

For Vista: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

For Mac OS X: ~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates

    Hope this helps.

As iTouch93 said, theyre stored in a folder on your computer.

Just as long as you bought 2.2.1, youre good.

If your iPod came with 2.2.1 pre-installed, you wouldnt have it. Unless youve pressed the Restore button before, then you would have it.

    Go to the Library.
    Download iTunes.
    Plug in your iPod.
    Click Restore in iTunes.
Unplug your iPod before the download finishes.
When the download finishes, look in the folders that iTouch93 explained.
You should see the firmware file.
